NEW FDA WARNING ABOUT MESH REPAIR
Released 7-13-11

On July 13, 20011, the Food and Drug Administration released a Safety Communication regarding transvaginal placement of surgical mesh for pelvic organ prolapse. The most common complication was erosion through the vaginal wall which can lead to pain with intercourse, bleeding, infection and urinary problems.

Numerous clinical studies have shown different results and this is where there is much controversy.

Clearly, proper training, good surgical technique, and proper patient selection are key factors to ensure high success rates and low risks for complications.

At Womancare, we have the expertise to evaluate and treat complicated cases of pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence. In fact, Dr. Doug Miyazaki has been a physician instructor for the Gynecare (Johnson and Johnson corporation) and American Medical Systems surgery companies and our patients have not had good, but rather excellent results and complications have been rare.

Surgery does have inherent risk so it is important that you know what your options are and the risks and benefits of your treatment options. The physicians at Womancare are experts in minimally invasive surgery and will continue to provide the best and most compassionate care possible for our patients.
