WomanCare participates in most insurance programs. When you call to make an appointment be sure to tell the receptionist the name of your insurance carrier so we can verify WomanCare’s participation with this payer.

Managed care plans may have restrictions with respect to hospitals, physicians, as well as the type and extent of treatments. Changes in hospitals, participating physicians, labs and ancillary service providers are frequent.

While we make every effort to keep abreast of these changes in insurance plans and relay them to you, it is ultimately your responsibility to make certain your insurance provider approves of the choice of hospital, physician or laboratory where you have been referred.
Carefully review your plan’s benefits by contacting your program’s patient relations representative or your employer’s human relation’s department for explanation of your health care coverage.

Many insurance plans require a co-payment and this must be paid at the time of your visit. If you are unsure of your co-payment amount, check your insurance card for co-payment information or call the toll-free number listed on your insurance card.

Office Question Answers

1. What does it mean for a doctor to be “board-eligible” or “board-certified”?
The American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ABOG) certifies graduates of approved OB/GYN residency training programs as board eligible. This means he or she has received a medical degree and has completed four years of advanced, intensive training in all aspects of this specialty.

In order to be board eligible, a physician must have successfully passed a comprehensive written exam. This is usually done at the completion of the final year of residency. After two years in practice the doctor must then complete an oral exam before a national examining board. Only after the doctor has successfully passed both tests can he or she be considered board certified. An obstetrician-gynecologist must be re-certified every 10 years. Our physicians, however, voluntarily re-certify with ABOG every year to ensure we offer the most up-to-date treatments available for our patients.

2. What do the letters F.A.C.O.G. stand for?

F.A.C.O.G. stands for “Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.” Once a physician has achieved diplomat (board certified) status, he or she may apply for membership in this national society dedicated to advancing women’s healthcare. The College establishes national guidelines concerning women’s health in the United States.

3. How can I get my prescription refilled?
Requests to refill prescriptions should be made during office hours only so that we can review your medical record. Please check with your pharmacist before you call. He or she may already have permission to refill your prescription. For safety’s sake, we do not make telephone diagnoses or prescribe medications for disorders currently not under our treatment.
Plan ahead for prescription refills. You should expect a 24-hour turnaround time for refills to be completed so please do not wait until Friday to request a refill.

4. How can I obtain a copy of my medical records?

To receive a copy of your medical record you must complete an Authorization for Release of Information form. The form requires you to identify specific information you wish released, the purpose of use, any exclusions and the entity to which the records will be released. You may be charged a nominal administrative fee for handling and copying as defined by the North Carolina statutes. In accordance with North Carolina statutes, original medical records may not be released.
