Obstetrics
and Gynecology are specialties in the field of
medicine. Obstetrics is the area of medicine that focuses on pregnancy,
labor and the postpartum stage – the time shortly following birth.
At WomanCare, we specialize in routine
pregnancies and deliveries and in those pregnancies and deliveries
that are considered high risk.
Gynecology is the medical specialty that concentrates
on the routine health care, as well as the diagnosis and treatment
of disorders of the female reproductive organs.
Our physicians are experts in all phases of a woman’s
reproductive health, including adolescent gynecology and menopause
management.
WomanCare’s healthcare team offers a comprehensive range of preventive,
diagnostic and chronic and acute care treatments to meet the wide
range of women’s healthcare needs.

Our healthcare team at WomanCare has expertise and extensive experience
in the distinct healthcare issues and needs of each stage of a

- Advanced Gynecologic
Ultrasound
Ultrasound
can be very helpful in diagnosis a host of gynecologic disorders.
It is a non-invasive method of viewing the reproductive organs
in the pelvis to determine the nature and extent of structural
abnormalities present. Many gynecologic disorders do not show
early symptoms and ultrasound can often diagnose problems
well before a patient may know a problem exists.

- Osteoporosis Screening
Women are living longer. Consequently, the number of women
with osteoporosis is increasing. About 20 million women have
osteoporosis, and the results of this disease – if left untreated
– can be devastating. Hip fractures due to osteoporosis result
in 50,000 deaths each year. That’s why we’re committed to
early detection and treatment.
The best way to screen for osteoporosis is with a bone density
test called a DEXA™ Scan.
WomanCare
offers DEXA™ Scan testing right in our office. The DEXA™
Scan delivers precise bone mineral density (BMD) results in
just two minutes for the spine and femur.
DEXA™ Scans are painless, quiet scans that offer a superior
bone scan at five times less radiation exposure than competitive
bone densitometers. The radiation exposure with a DEXA™
Scan is also less than one-fifth that of a mammogram.
WomanCare
also meets the highest levels of expertise in osteoporosis
screening. Our staff includes a physician who is a certified
clinical densitometrist by the International Society of Clinical
Densitometry and two technologists who have passed certification
exams for the International Society for Clinical Densitometry.

- Urinary
Incontinence & Urogynecology
Frequent
urination. Bladder leakage. Urinary incontinence. Call it
whatever you like, it’s a common and embarrassing problem
for over 11 million women in the United States.
If we at WomanCare can convey one message to our patients,
it is this: You do not have to suffer from urinary control
problems in silence. We can help resolve or at least greatly
improve your situation.
- Do you urinate more than 12 times a day and more than
twice each night?
- Do you have “accidents” and sometimes wet yourself?
- Do you often wet yourself when you cough, sneeze, laugh
or lift heavy objects?
- Are you using a sanitary product to protect you from “wetting”
accidents?
- Do you have to strain to urinate?
- Do you have hesitancy when you urinate or a slow, weak
urinary stream?
- Do you feel that you are not completely emptying when
you urinate?
- Do you have frequent urinary dribbling?
If you answered “Yes”
to any of these answers, you may have a condition
that is treatable by one of our physicians.
Urinary control problems are common in women who have been
pregnant and have given birth vaginally. And after menopause,
these problems occur more frequently. However, they are not
a normal part of aging.
Our staff members at WomanCare have been specially trained
in urodynamics - the testing, diagnosis and treatment of urinary
control problems. These special tests are performed in a private
testing section of our office with the sensitivity and understanding
that you’ve come to know and expect from us.

1. What is a registered dietitian?
A registered dietitian (RD) is a food and nutrition expert.
Click here to visit the American Dietetic Association: www.eatright.org.
RDs must successfully:
- Graduate with a bachelor’s degree from an American Dietetic
Association (ADA) accredited university or college nutrition
program.
- Complete an internship at an ADA accredited supervised practice
program (typically 9-12 months).
- Pass a national exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic
Registration (CDR).
- Design, submit and maintain a Professional Development Portfolio
approved by the CDR.
- Complete 75 continuing education credit hours every five

2. Why should I see a dietitian?
- If you are frustrated with trying to lose weight and have
“tried everything!”
- If you are confused by fad diets.
- If you want to eat right and feel your best.
- If you need more energy.
- In you are pregnant or breastfeeding and are confused about
what you should or should not eat.
- If you need help finding the right foods to feed your family.
- If you have a strong family history of diabetes, high blood
pressure, stroke or heart disease and want to reduce your
chance of developing one of these chronic diseases.
- If you have an existing medical condition that requires
nutrition intervention (link to “Our Nutritionists specialize
in … and the list)

4. What if I’m not a patient
of WomanCare?
Although we are part of an OB/GYN practice devoted to the care
of women, you do not have to be a patient of WomanCare to be
seen by the dietitians. We see men, women and children from
our community. Check with your insurance company to see if they
require a referral.

5. What is your Philosophy?

We don’t recommend fad diets, gimmicks, or quick fixes. Rather,
our nutrition program encourages behavior change. We will work
with you to identify those behaviors that have contributed to
your current situation, and then help you find alternatives
to those behaviors. By focusing on changing behaviors, you can
learn skills and develop healthier eating patterns to use throughout
life. Our most successful patients are those who incorporate
changes slowly and learn long-term techniques for managing their
nutritional health.

6. What can I expect from my first
session?
At your first visit, your dietitian will ask many questions
regarding your medical history, family medical history, current
medications, recent lab work, favorite foods, foods you will
not eat, exercise habits and a “typical day” with regard to
eating. You will leave the session with several topics to focus
on depending on the nutrition issues that arise in your first
visit.
>Back
to Top
7. Will I have to eat “special”
foods?
No. All the foods we recommend can be found in our local grocery
stores.
>Back
to Top
8.
Will you recommend supplements?
Dietary supplements are just that – supplements to the nutrients
you consume in the food you eat, not replacements. Your body
absorbs more nutrients from food than supplements. We will provide
suggestions on dietary sources of nutrients, but will recommend
supplements only if you are unable to meet your needs through
your diet.
>Back
to Top
9. How do I stop gaining weight?
Because our eating habits can become routine, you may not notice
where the extra calories are hidden in your day. It can really
help to talk to a nutrition professional so that they can independently
identify problem areas.
>Back
to Top
10. Do I have to exercise?
Exercise is a critical part of maintaining and improving your
health. Exercise lowers blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure
and helps increase your metabolism. As long as your physician
has encouraged you to exercise, we will too.
>Back
to Top
11. Can you work with me if
I’m also doing Weight Watchers?
Yes! We will provide one-on-one support to help you lose weight
and improve your health. We will offer suggestions that work
with your point range or the core plan.
